Date: 25th and 26th March 2023: Site Visit to Mariani Junction
A site visit to Mariani Junction was organized for 6th semester students on 25th and 26th March 2023. The aim of the field visit was to show different parts and components of Railway Engineering and give some practical exposure to the students. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Achyut Das, Associate Professor, CED. Mr. Mrinal Adhyapok, Assistant Professor CED was also present during the visit.
Date: 22th March 2023: Talk by Dr. D. Ravi
A talk was delivered by Dr. D. Ravi, Assistant Professor VAMNICOM, Pune (Ministry of Cooperation, Govt. of India) on “Youth in Participation of Cooperatives” on 22nd march, 2023. Students were highly benefited from the technical talk.
Date: 11th March 2023: Talk by Mr. Alok Tandon
Mr. Alok Tandon, CEO, INOX Leisure, JEC alumnus visited JEC on 11th March 2023 as guest speaker on “Prf. Devajit Caliha Memorial Inaugural Talk” organized by Jorhat Engineering College Alumni Association in collaboration with Jorhat Engineering College. He delivered a lecture on “Imagineering Success” to motivate students.
Date: 9th March 2023: Talk by Lt. Cdr Pranjal Handique
A special talk was organized on “Engineers in the Armed Forces” on 9th March 2023, by Lt. Cdr Pranjal Handique, Gunnery Specialist, Indian Navy. Mr. Handique was also an alumni of Civil Engineering Department of 2010 graduating batch. Mr. Handique motivated students to pursue career in Indian Armed Forces and explained the milestones students can achieve in their lifetime.
Mr. Pranjal Handique started his career with a Hyderabad based company, Southern Engineering Works working in a Hydropower Project in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. He also worked as a Guest Lecturer in Civil Engg Department of Tezpur University for a duration of six months. He joined the Indian Naval Academy in Dec 2011 and was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in the Executive Cadre of the Indian Navy. Post completion of ab-initio training, he has served in frontline warships of the Indian Navy including Destroyers, Frigates and Corvettes. He completed his Gunnery Specialist Course in 2018 at Fort Kochi Kerala. He has successfully fired 03 ballistic missiles and operated state of the art weapon systems onboard different platforms of the Navy. He is presently appointed as an instructor in the Seamanship School at Kochi, Kerala.
Date:3rd to 4th March 2023: Site Visit to Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project
Two Days industrial visit for 8th semester students was conducted to Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project, Gerukamukh on 3rd & 4th March, 2023. The field visit was hosted by the Dr. P.K. Khaund. He was accompanied by Mrs. Snigdha Kalita, Assistant Professor, CED.
Date:12th February 2023: Technical Talk by Prof. Binod Kumar
A technical talk was delivered by Prof. Binod Kumar, Prof, IIT, BHU, on the topic “Role of Transportation Engineering in Economic Development of India” on 12th February 2023. The session was especially for 6th semester students. Prf. Kumar has explained about the different aspects of road transportation and water transportation engineering and enlightened students about the possibilities of building their career in these fields as entrepreneur.
Date:16th to 18th December 2022: Visit of NBA Evaluation Team
National Board of Accreditation (NBA) Team visited the Civil Engineering Department along with other departments of Jorhat Engineering College from 16th to 18th December 2022. After successful evaluation Civil Engineering department along with Electrical Engineering Department and Computer Science Engineering Department are awarded NBA on 4th February 2023.

A Motivational Session and Group Discussion Competition was held in the college auditorium of JEC on 28th November 2022. Mr. Chinmoy Bordoloi, Co-founder of SPM IAS Academy was the Judge and Speaker for the event. Mr. C. Bordoloi is a proud alumnus of the Civil Engineering Department of JEC. Students from the Civil Engineering department along with other departments of JEC attended the event. The event was organized by the Training and Placement Cell of Jorhat Engineering College.

Date: 24th September 2022: Felicitation Ceremony for the well-performing Students
With the objective of encouraging the well-performing students a Felicitation Ceremony was held on 22nd October 2022. This time rank holders in the finals of 2021 and 2022 (passed-out batches) were invited. At the same event students holding the top 3 ranks in semester examinations were also felicitated by Dr. Rupam Baruah, Principal, JEC, and Dr. P.K. Khaund, HoD, Civil Engineering Department, Jorhat Engineering College.
First three rank holders from the 2017-21 batch were Mr. Bitupon Dutta, Mr. Pradyumna Kalita, and Mr. Bikash Pratim Borah. First three rank holders of the 2018-22 batch were Ms. Deepjyoti Bhuyan, Mr. Debasish Talukdar, and Ms. Bhabana Deka. First Three rank holders while promoted from the 4th semester to the 5th semester during the academic year 2020-21 were Ms. Suhashinee Bezbaruah, Mr. Arindom Dutta, Mr. Mriganabh Saikia, and Ms. Ritumoni Lahon. Ms. Shrutiparna Deka, Ms. Pranamika Saikia, and Ms. Bhaswati Dutta were the first three rank holders while promoted from the 4th semester to the 5th semester in the academic year 2021-2022. Ms. Suhashinee Bezbaruah, Ms. Anusikha Goswami, and Ms. Ritumoni Lahon were the first three rank holders during the promotion from the 6th semester to the 7th semester in the same academic year.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Mrinal Adhyapok and anchored by Mrs. Snigdha Kalita.
Date: 10th September 2022: Stakeholders Meet
A stakeholders meet was organized on 10th September 2022, in Civil Engineering Department. The objective of the meeting was to share thoughts and interact with the gradients. In the meeting Dr. P.K. Khaund, HoD, CED shared a brief presentation on civil engineering department stating departmental facilities and teaching learning process. Then gradients shared their thoughts and suggestions. Faculty members Dr. Mrinal Kr. Dutta,
Mr. Rituparna Goswami and Dr. Nayanmoni Chetiya also interacted with the gradients. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Nayanmoni Chetiya. The whole event was anchored by Mrs. Snigdha Kalita.
Date: 14th August 2021 : Intra College Debate Competition
As part of the diamond jubilee celebration of Jorhat Engineering College, an Intra College Debate Competition was conducted on 14th August 2022. The motion of the competition was “Advancement in Artificial Intelligence is a Threat to Humanity”. The speaker for the event was Prof. Arup Kumar Sarma, IIT Guwahati. The event was judged by Dr. Aditi Bezbaruah, Retired Faculty JEC, and Dr. Surojit Sarma, Associate Professor, J.B. College.
Mr. Yeasin Ahmed, Ms. Suhashinee Bezbaruah, and Mr. Aditya Ojha won the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions respectively. The 4th prize was awarded jointly to Mr. Pankaj Kalita and Mr. Ritwick Parasar. The first 4 rank holders were selected to represent JEC in the upcoming All Assam Inter Engineering College Debate Competition to be held on 4th September 2021. The convenor of the event was Dr. Prasanna Kr. Khaund, HoD, Civil Engineering Department.
Date: 20th June 2021 : Industry Expert Technical Talk
An online technical talk on bridge was conducted for 8th semester students on 20th June 2021. Er. Arunabh Sharma, Assistant Manager, RITS was the resource person for the same. Mr. P. Sarma was the coordinator for the event. The technical talk was designed and delivered to suit the level and understanding of 8th semester students with practical implications. The technical talk covers detail presentation on different bridge parts,
process of bridge construction with special emphasis on bridge sub-structure. The technical talk was followed by question answer session where students have actively participated and cleared all their doubts.
Date: 8th March 2021 : Felicitation Ceremony
Felicitation Ceremony for the rank holders of BE civil engineering 2020 was held on 8th March 2021. Mr. Nihir Boro and Mr. Pranjal Sarma were the coordinators for the same. Mr. Monmeet Singh, Ms. Supriya Bora, and Mr. Jacob Kashyap got felicitated because of their outstanding performance in academics. Moreover Ms. Shreya Tamuli, Ms. Titiksha Handique, Mr. Saagar Haobam and Mr. Syed Ikbal Hushin were felicitated as they got placed in Vedanta Resources Ltd.
Date: 13th to 17th July 2020 : Faculty Development Program
Civil Engineering Department Organized an online FDP on “Recent Development in Civil Engineering” sponsored by TEQIP-III, held from 13th July to 17th July 2020, coordinated by Dr Pulendra Dutta, Dr Arup Bhattacharjee and Mr Baharul Hussain. A total of nine prominent professionals from around the globe delivered lectures on this FDP program.

The Department conducted a field visit to a Flood Control Project in River Burhi-Dihing , under Sibasagar Water Resource Division on 23rd February 2020, and was coordinated by Prof. P.K. Khaund.

A presentation on “Sustainable Development” was delivered by the Chairman of Brahmaputra Board Mr. Rajiv Yadav on 27th January 2020. The event was organized by Brahmaputra Board in Civil Engineering Department of Jorhat Engineering College.

A one day industry expert talk on “Industrial pollution Control” & “Job Opportunity in Environmental Engineering” by Dr. Shantanu Kr Dutta CPCB (GOI), for 8th Semester B.E students was organized on 17th June 2019. The talk was coordinated by Dr. Atanu Kumar Dutta and was assisted by Mr. Utpal Ray as joint coordinator.

An industry expert talk on “Reservoir Optimization” by Pranab Das, NRL was organized on 15th June 2019 for 8th Semester B.E civil engineering students. The talk was coordinated by Dr. Mrinal Kr. Dutta and was assisted by Mrs. Abhigna Bhatt as joint coordinator. Another industry expert talk on “Industrial Building” by Er. Sujit Kr. Singh, NRL was organized on the same day for 8th Semester B.E civil engineering students. The talk was coordinated by Mr. Pranjal Sarma and was assisted by Ms. Prasanty Borah as joint coordinator.

Technical Talk on “River Erosion and Its Control in Brahmaputra Valley (Upper Assam Reach)” by Dr. Prasanna K. Khaund for 8thSem B.E students was organized on 12th June 2019. Dr. Khaund was the coordinator and was assisted by Mr. Baharul Hussain as joint coordinator.
Date: 18th May 2019 : Industrial visit to railway station (Mariani Jn.), road construction site (NH 37) and building construction site
An industrial visit to railway station (Mariani Jn.) was organized on 18th May 2019 for B.E. 6th Semester civil engineering students. Dr. Achyut Das was the coordinator and was assisted by Mr. Koushik Kalita as joint coordinator. B.E. 4th Sem B.E students were taken for an industrial visit to road construction site (NH 37) and building construction site (JEC new auditorium) on 18th May 2019. Mr. Utpal Ray and Ms. Marlina Gowalla coordinated the event and were assisted by Mr. Koushik Kalita, Mr. Pranjal Sarma and Mr. Baharal Hussain and Mr. Nihir Boro as joint coordinator.

A one day technical talk on “Application of IS codes on Earthquake resistant structures & ductile detailing” was organized on 18th May, 2019 for 6thsem B.E civil engineering students. The event was coordinated by Dr. Nayanmoni Chetia and was assisted by Baharul Hussain as joint coordinator.

An industrial visit to water treatment plant was organized on 16th and 17th May 2019 for 6th semester B.E students. Mr. Rituparna Goswami was the coordinator and was assisted by Dr. Arup Bhattarjee, Dr. Nayanmoni Chetia and Ms. Joba Goswami.
Date: 16th May to 17th May 2019 : A hands on Training on Total Station and on Mix Design
A hands on training on total station and on mix design was organized on 16th and 17th May 2019 for 6th semester B.E students. Koushik Kalita and Mrs. Abhigna Bhatt coordinated the event. Dr. Arup Bhattacharjee, Dr. Sulaem M. Laskar and Mr. Abhijeet Hazarika were also present for smooth conduction of the event.
Date: 6th April 2019 : Felicitation Ceremony
On 6th April, 2019 Civil Engineering Department conducted a “Felicitation Ceremony” for the first three rank holders of 2011-15 batch, 2012-16 batch, 2013-17 batch, 2014-18 batch. In the same meeting first three rank holders 3rd, 5th and 7th semester were also felicitated. GATE 2019 qualified students also felicitated on the same day to enhance the moral of the students and to inspire them and other students of Civil Engineering Department, JEC.
Date: 14th February to 16th February 2019 : Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp
An Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp was held in 2 sessions from 14th to 16th February 2019 for BE 8th students and from 22nd to 24th for BE 6th semester students at Civil Engineering Department of JEC, sponsored by DST and implemented by EDII Centre of Excellence, Kaziranga University. Lighting of the lamp and inauguration of both the session were done by Prof. P.K. Khaund. Speakers for the camp were Dr. Braja Sundar Mishra, Mr. Agnimitra Biswas, Dr. P.G. Ramesh, Dr. Ashwini Sharma and Ms. Preeti Sarmah. The event was coordinated by Dr. Nayanmoni Chetia and Mr. Utpal Ray.
Date: 21st December to 22nd December 2018: International Conference on Infrastructure Development (ICID2018)
Dept of Civil Engineering, Jorhat Engineering College and Civil Engineering Dept of Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan, Karnataka organized a 2-day International Conference on Infrastructure Development (ICID-2018) during 21-22nd December, 2018. The conference organized in the premises of Jorhat Engineering College, witnessed participation of 9 keynote speakers of international repute and 45 technical presentations spread over 9 technical sessions.

A TEQIP-III Sponsored Technical Talk on “Planning and Implementation of Construction work in E&P Industry” by Experts from Oil India Limited, Duliajan was organized on 1st November, 2018. Mr. S.K. Biswas, GM(P&M) from Oil India Limited, Duliajan was the resource person. The Technical Talk covered part of syllabus for 7th Semester Students.

A TEQIP-III Sponsored Technical Talk on “Overview of a Building Construction Project” by Experts from Oil India Limited, Duliajan was organized on 1st November, 2018. Ms. Swagata Baruah, alumnus of this department and presently SEC(QC) from Oil India Limited was the resource person. The Technical Talk covered part of syllabus for 5th Semester Students.

Engineers have a moral obligation to work for the betterment of the society. Engineers should use their contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and should take responsibilities relevant to their respective professional engineering practices. With the aim to make our students aware of their social responsibilities, this talk on “Finding Fulfilment in Engineering and Life” was be arranged.
Date: 27th August to 31stAugust 2018: Short Term Training Program on “Recent Advances In Civil Engineering”.
The main focus of the said short term training programme is to highlight the recent research activities in the field of Civil Engineering. The program mainly highlights the research activities in the field of geotechnical engineering, water resource management, optimization, structural engineering and earthquake hazard analysis.
Date: 18th August, 2018: One Day Technical Talk on “Prospect, Potential and Possibilities of Inland Water Transport in Assam”
The talk mainly focuses on the inland water transport in Assam. Assam has a long history of inland water transport. But this mode of transportation is still not getting the importance like Road Transport in the state. In order to discuss the current scenario of inland water transport and the future potential and possibilities of this mode transportation in the state this event was organized.
Date: 11th August, 2018: One Day Technical Talk on “Planning, Design and Construction of Bridges and Culverts”
The talk mainly focuses on the design of road bridges and culverts. The talk was designed to deliver introductory idea about designing of road bridges.With the aim of introducing students about planning and construction of road bridges and culverts, Civil Engineering Department of JEC has conducted a One day technical talk for UG students (7th semester) in the departmental seminar hall on 11th August, 2018.
Date: 02nd August to 10th August 2018: SAP 2000 Training Programme
A training programme on SAP 2000 was organized by Department of Civil Engineering for 7th Semester BE (Civil Engg.)Students. The main aim of the training was to give students hands on training on SAP 2000, a structural engineering software. The training was scheduled for eight days from 02.08.2018 to 10.08.2018.
Date: 11th June, 2018: One Day Technical Talk on “Advanced Surveying and Intelligent Transportation System”
With the aim to introduce the students with basic knowledge about Advanced Surveying and its application in Transportation Engineering field, which is not covered within the present curriculum but very important for professional career, Civil Engineering Department of JEC has conducted a one day technical talk for UG students in the departmental seminar hall on 11th June, 2018.

With the aim to introduce the students with basic knowledge about Alternate Building Materials and Technology, which is not covered within the present curriculum, Civil Engineering Department of JEC has conducted a one day technical talk for 6thSem UG students in the departmental seminar hall on 9th June, 2018.
Date: 4th and 5th June, 2018: Two Days Technical Talk on “Earthquake Engineering: Codal Provisions and Practices”
The talk introduces about nature of earthquake forces and how these affect the civil engineering structure. It describes nature of earthquake forces on buildings, explains load resisting structures, and foundation. It discusses retrofitting of structures and codal provisions on earthquake resisting structures. Introduces modern techniques of earthquake protection, features of modern IT tools and video on damages by past earthquake.
Date: 1st and 2nd June, 2018: Two Days Technical Talk on “River Erosion Control with Special Reference to North East India”
The talk dealt with the problem of river erosion and the related hardship to the effected populace that has assumed alarming magnitude in recent times; especially in the Brahmaputra River system. The various topics that were presented in the talk sessions have therefore judiciously chosen to cover the different aspects related to this issue, including the relevant mitigating and controlling measures.
